What is your current Job Title or Role?
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
If you are creative and enjoy problem solving - go for it. There are so many different roles you can get into. The most important thing is to keep doing what you enjoy and don't worry too much about who else enjoys the same things. Be you.
How did you get to where you are today?
I coded for fun when I was a kid. Ended up with a degree in Film and Creative writing... made films for a while, had kids and found my way back to coding.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
Talk to clients and users about what they need from a digital product. Write code. Review other peoples code. Create processes to make our workflow more efficient. Exchange knowledge with my colleagues and other peers.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
I always enjoyed making stuff, collaborating and solving problems within constraints.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I get to meet lots of people and since the projects I work on are mostly in the charity sector, I feel like I am helping to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society. I like sharing ideas and being able to load an app and think to myself: 'We made that!'. Sometimes computers are easier to talk to than humans too!
What do you like to do outside work?
Walking, reading, camping, watching films, sharing stories, hearing other peoples ideas
