What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Believe in yourself, do a career that makes you happy and you enjoy. Promote yourself and your achievements. You are worth it! You are worth investing time in yourself, you are doing a good enough job and you need to value yourself in order to be valued by other people.
How did you get to where you are today?
I completed A Levels in Maths Physics, and Chemistry and a Mechanical engineering degree. I joined the Royal Navy as an Engineering Officer, the experience and opportunities I had in the navy gave me the skills required to undertake my current role.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
I am on-board the ship most days visiting ships staff who are my customer. I provide oversight for the engineering support taking place on-board the vessel ensuring it progresses on schedule and meets the standards expected. I communicate with ships staff and the ministry of defence to ensure that all stakeholders are in agreement for support work to the platform.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
I want to set a good example to my 2 daughters and be a good role model to them you can be and have an engineering career.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the challenge and every day being different and having a different problem or challenge to overcome.
What do you like to do outside work?
I look after my children and I enjoy surfing and cycling and keeping fit.
