What is your current Job Title or Role?
Infrastructure Engineer
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Persue the subjects you enjoy & get as much experience as you can!
How did you get to where you are today?
I tried different branches of engineering early in my career & when I was studying (including a Year in Industry & a couple of summer placements) and came to the conclusion drainage design was the best fit for me. (I actually took another year off nannying, travelling & deciding what to do with myself).
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
I design surface water and foul drainage networks & systems.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
The moment I realised I needed to follow Civil Engineering as a profession was after my degree & whilst travelling through South America. In the lesser developed areas I saw examples of what it was for people not to have good infrastructure and sanitary provision and so realised, by learning how to design these things, that I really could make a positive difference.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
It’s varied and allows me to problem solve.
What do you like to do outside work?
I love hanging out with my family and spending time in the great outdoors.
