What is your current Job Title or Role?
Behavioural Change Coach
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
If you are someone who wants to make a difference, the world is your oyster. Science needs women who combine passion, creativity and rigour.
How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to help people make full use of whatever unique combination of talents they have, and early on in my career became interested in why some people find that easier than others. So although I started off as a social historian wanting to learn lessons from the past, I now do a lot of work around finding out how our brains can help us work happily and productively together., now and in the future.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
Coaching individuals and teams to understand and optimise their capabilities, address their perceived limitations and achieve their goals. At Engage to Move Ahead we specialise in helping STEM organisations address issues around gender parity, for example unconscious bias and talent management. We do this through keynote presentations, seminars and workshops, and coaching interventions.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
Getting an opportunity to work with a fantastic female leader in the Space sector and noticing the benefits to everyone when organizations work to close the gender gap.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Opening people’s eyes to what they can do and achieve, and inspiring action. It is a great feeling knowing that you have at some level been part of their success stories.
What do you like to do outside work?
Besides reading, walking and genealogy, creating unique, personalised gifts and experiences to pleasantly surprise my family and friends.
