What is your current Job Title or Role?
Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Always ask why. Know the reason for your actions. Will this help you accomplish the goal? Don't accept anything at "face value" if it doesn't make sense to you. Be curious and question what you don't understand. Healthy, vigorous debate creates better solutions. There's no better question that "Why?" Never stop asking it.
How did you get to where you are today?
Curiosity, motivations and determination
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
Carrying out practical microbiological testing of raw materials for pathogens including legionella, salmonella, listeria and E.coli, ensuring compliance with appropriate standards.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
My own curiosity got myself into Science. I looked through a brochure for City College Plymouth and thought Forensic Science sounded interesting. From there every experience in science has been captivating and there is always something else to learn and opportunities to develop.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that there is always something else to learn and that the skills learnt can be developed and used in other disciplines within the field.
What do you like to do outside work?
I enjoy kite surfing, climbing/bouldering, running, cooking, gardening and lots more.
