What is your current Job Title or Role?
European Space Agency Business Applications UK Regional Ambassador (South West & South Wales)
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Its never been a better or more exciting time to engage with STEM; the opportunities are truly global, and even beyond with Space sector growth. I would say its never to late to jump in either, even if you don't currently have the training. As long as you have passion and curiosity you will be able to do anything.
How did you get to where you are today?
Originally I followed the arts but am now a remote sensing and geospatial specialist. I have worked in industry for 28 years. My last role was as a founding director of EarthSense Air quality Specialists and it was though this that I became aware of the significant and supporting role ESA Business Applications can provide to companies.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
It varies. I meet with and support companies in their engagement with the ESA Business Funding Programme and to help them develop new services using Space assets. I also work with all regional stakeholders to encourage the development of a supporting ecosystem for companies wanting to engage with the Space Sector.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
I discovered some research on remote sensing which was caught in the back of a filing cabinet and was hooked!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love talking to the companies and supporting them in developing their business and opening peoples eyes to the commercial potential offered by Space.
What do you like to do outside work?
I like to spend time with my family
