What is your current Job Title or Role?
Maritime Civil Engineer
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Find something you are passionate about and pursue a career in it. If you don't ask you don't get, so don't be afraid to speak up.
How did you get to where you are today?
Hard work and proving the doubters wrong.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
Learn, listen, research, manage, design, supervise.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
I have always been interested in the mechanics of how things work and loved taking things apart and re-building them. When I was told repeatedly to aim for a career in something less academic and better suited to a girl I decided that my gender didn't define my career choice and I will do what I want regardless.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The variety and possibilities. I have had the chance to work on Highways, Structures, Geotechnical, Ports and Marines and am about to move to New Zealand to join the Water Engineering division. A career like this opens doors to exciting projects across the globe.
What do you like to do outside work?
I love extreme sports, travelling all over the world and outdoors adventures.
