What is your current Job Title or Role?
Community Engagement Coordinator
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Dont be put of when people say construction is a man's world as I have found the best painters in my industry have been women.
How did you get to where you are today?
I started of training to be an Environmental Health officer, and then went over to regeneration as there was so much going on in the Liverpool city center, from there I ended up going into construction as a Tenant Liaison Officer working in a fast pasted industry doing anything from roofing to external insulation, and managed to get to do an training assistant site managers role and loved it, as the roles where short lived i managed to get into a paint and decorating company Bell Group who encouraged woman to reach their potential and I was made an Ambassador to promote woman in the industry, and work with people from all social backgrounds doing community projects.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
My role is so vast, there are no two days the same; I could be going into a prison doing a paint project to attending one of Bell Group's academies supporting students through their classroom assessments. On other days I will be working with clients residents either playing games and hosting events or baking for the Salvation army homeless. Its all part of Bell Groups social value as one of the largest Painter and Decorating companies.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
I loved being on a live building site dealing with every day issues and coming together as a team to iron out any problems that may happen, I had a very good site manager who encouraged me to take on a greater role than the TLO and I thrived in planing and organizing materials and work schedules. For the first time in my working career I loved coming to work and the challenges that came my way.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the fact I meet the most amazing people and I am encouraged by Bell to help the communities in which we work, I can project manage quirky schemes and deliver them in a fast turn around on a weekly bases.
What do you like to do outside work?
Whilst my brain never stops I love making things and attend craft/ art fairs as I am always looking for new stuff to create, I also attend Buddhist centers to help ground myself and help still my busy mind.
