What is your current Job Title or Role?
Technical Director - Environment
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Do something you love, even if it not the perceived norm; you will spend a lot of your life doing it, so best to have a passion and belief in what you do.
How did you get to where you are today?
Gosh that is a tough question. I had the support of my family and found some inspirational people along my career who helped to guide me. But fundementally it was a fixed determination and belief in what I wanted to do and what little old me could add to help our natural environment!
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
Coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments which determine the potential impact of a proposed development and identify mitigation to reduce that impact. I also work with teams responding to pollution impacts to determine the level of harm to the environment.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
When I was growing up there were very few women in science. I wanted to show that it can be done and that a career in science can be really fulfilling.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The variety of the role is exciting. It can be fast paced and energising. I also relish the knowledge that what our teams do on a daily basis makes a significant difference to our communities whilst supporting development in a way that is respectful of the natural environment.
What do you like to do outside work?
I like to ski and swim but I also love to stand on the sideline of freezing cold rugby pitch cheering on my sons! (well perhaps not the freezing bit!)
