What is your current Job Title or Role?
Membership Manager, South West & Wales
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Be open minded to the opportunities and don't under estimate the interesting range of roles that at least some ability in STEM subjects can open for you.
How did you get to where you are today?
I was fairly average at secondary school, did a vocational course so I could get a job and then used experience at work to make my way from entry level up to a managerial role, collecting some decent post-graduate education and professional memberships on the way.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
Use my understanding of social sciences, a little bit of physics and reasonable maths skills to help people achieve their career aims!
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
I have a fairly logical brain, like to exploit technology and am interested in how people think and work. Once labelled as 'a social scientist who does maths' I have used my interests and logic skills to develop myself. Arguably in my early career I wouldn't have considered that I worked in STEM, but actually I do and it is great.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Enabling people to achieve their career goals. Oh, and playing with data and spreadsheets...!
What do you like to do outside work?
Ride my horses, play with my dog and generally spend time at home with my husband.
