What is your current Job Title or Role?
Lecturer
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Follow your interests
How did you get to where you are today?
I hated filing. I taught myself to write software for a small business. My boss was very supportive. I sought out how to do things for myself, then stepped right outside my comfort zone to try them out. I took on things that frightened me and I learnt from them. I came to Uni as a mature student, left with a first class degree and a passion for programming. After working for the NHS and another company I came back to do my PhD. I have been at the University ever since. I still have that passion for writing software.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
I talk to students, I create materials for students to learn from and I work with fabulous colleagues to make sure students get the best experiences we can offer them.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
Feeling that I wanted to make this new technology work for me, not me work for it.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Teaching students.
What do you like to do outside work?
Walking in the countryside, travelling to see new and interesting places, eating good food and dancing.
