What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Don't listen to gender stereotypes. Women bring a completely different mindset to a project and can see things in a way that men can't. Software development need women!!
How did you get to where you are today?
I always wanted to be a lawyer. The lure of prosecuting murders and putting the bad guy away kept this dream alive until I got to college and was finally able to start achieving my dream. Except, all college did was make me realise how boring being a lawyer would be for me, which inevitably led the 16-year-old me to freak out. What was I going to do for the rest of my life? What was I even good at? IT. In my panic, I decided to go and do a foundation degree in Web Technology. By this point, I’d developed a deep interest for programming which I continued to build on and after 2 years, completed my foundation degree.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
I problem solve. I learn how to work in a team. I write code. I fix bugs. My daily work can be different every day.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
There was never anyone who particularly inspired me, I just wanted to be good at something and I was good at IT.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that every day brings a different problem which allows me to problem solve.
What do you like to do outside work?
Spend time with my fiance and dog!!
