What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Keep going, and keep an open mind! It doesn't matter if you're wrong sometimes, that's how you learn
How did you get to where you are today?
I studied for an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology and went on to complete a MSc in Biological Diversity. During this time, I started working as a marine microbiologist at PML, where I developed an interest in microbiology.
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
I study the evolution and ecology of bacteriophages - viruses that infect bacteria. As well as this, I provide technical support for the rest of the team.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
A love of wildlife, especially marine conservation, inspired me to study marine biology. An interest in helping people sparked a passion for microbiology.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
It's different every day, and allows me to think creatively about solutions to problems
What do you like to do outside work?
I enjoy wild swimming, cycling, attempting to surf and playing the drums. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my awesome family
