What is your current Job Title or Role?
Despatch Chargehand
What advice would you have for young women who are interested in a STEM career or job?
Don't have a chip on your shoulder when it comes to being a woman in a male dominated industry. Instead use the unique struggles as fuel to motivate you! Prove them all wrong with your successes no matter how small.
How did you get to where you are today?
By accepting that the main person I needed support from was myself. By ignoring the ignorant and pushing myself to be what I wanted to be. I realised I didn't need anyone else's approval. Set your own values. Own your future!
What do you do on a daily basis in your work?
I work alongside a boat building team to Despatch luxury yachts to their expectant owners. My role is on the marina with the final product to ensure each bespoke yacht meets the high standards set by the manufacturer, designers and the customer. Every aspect must be inspected and approved from paint finishes to navigation systems and plumbing. Even making sure the correct colour carpet is fitted! I also get to act as deckcrew for Seatrials.
Who or what inspired you to get into STEM?
My parents. Above all they fed my imagination which let me dream big! They struck the match that started the fire! I have always been fascinated by how the world works.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
My passion is the sea and the outdoors. I get to work outside on the water which suits my soul and I am constantly challenged which suits my mind!
What do you like to do outside work?
Anything on or in the ocean! My dog is also a huge part of my life. He is just as mad about the water so he goes everywhere with me!
